The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 10 Things It Did Right

8. Awesome, Explosive Action Scenes

Without a doubt, one of the best - or, at least, visually impressive- action scenes in recent memory depicts a showdown between Spider-Man and Electro in Times Square. After falling into a vat of electricity-charged eels (don't ask) and finding himself imbued with some fairly terrifying powers, Max Dillion - soon to be Electro - confronts Spider-Man in New York's most famed location. This is one of those set-pieces that sticks firmly in the memory, because how can you forget somebody zapping such an iconic locale so relentlessly? Also: slo-mo! There are other memorable action scenes, too, one of which involves Spider-Man facing off against the Rhino in the film's opening sequence (the Rhino is handled well in this sense, as he's not featured as a "focus" of the movie, giving the other villains more room to breathe), and a delicious battle in a sort of neon graveyard is both visually stunning and nerve-wrangling to sit through. If the scenes are a little on the CG'd side, well... what can we expect from a comic book movie in 2014? For the most part, they're an improvement on the first chapter's.
