The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 7 Reasons It Makes Sense To Keep Gwen Stacy Alive

4. Peter And Gwen's Relationship Needs More Time To Develop

The Amazing Spider-Man One problem I have with The Amazing Spider-Man is that while Garfield and Stone's chemistry is very strong, I wish the film developed Peter and Gwen's relationship a little more and provided it with a stronger dramatic arc. Ideally, now that origin story is out of the way, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will take more time to explore the complexities of their relationship, particularly how Gwen copes with dating a man she knows could get killed any day. She raised this concern to Peter in the first film, and how it reminded her of her father's job as a police officer. If Gwen was to die in this film, it would feel like there wasn't enough time for Peter and Gwen relationship to deepen and mature beyond teenage love. Their bond has to become strong enough in this franchise that the tragedy of her death truly hits the audience.
