The end of the sequel has Peter's on-off-on-again girlfriend Gwen Stacy buried, and Peter in full grieving mode, presumably with her ghost being added to his Jacob Marley chain of guilt-ghosts and the road open for Mary Jane to come along and sweep him off his feet. In light of how the film framed that monumental death, it would have been entirely wrong to introduce MJ even as a secondary character, because it would devalue the importance of Peter's relationship with Gwen by association, thanks to the conscious fore-shadowing that his second, much more important girlfriend was already on the scene anyway. As it is, it was left to Aunt May to give Peter a slightly distasteful bit of advice on boxing away old pain, and putting it out of sight (ignoring the fact that that story usually ends with the local news interviewing your neighbours who keep saying that you "always kept himself to himself") and Peter apparently just accepting that he shouldn't be moping around about killing someone, and should get back on the horse (or the Rhino as it turned out). So Mary Jane is coming - presumably in the next film - and that's exactly as it should be. Did you enjoy The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Think it could have been improved?
