American Sniper: 9 Things The Film Lied About

4. There Was No Special Bounty On His Head

With Kyle's legend growing in the film, it's revealed that the insurgents have placed an eye-watering $180,000 bounty on his head, and are using his tattoo to help identify him to any would-be assassin assassins. It wouldn't be quite right to say that this didn't happen entirely, as for the majority of his tours there would have been a cash reward for anyone able to prove they'd killed Chris Kyle, but this was simply the standard bounty that was placed on any American sharpshooters in the war. Whilst the figures did vary, and Kyle's tattoo was known to his enemies, he wasn't singled out by them. In an interview with talkshow host Conan O'Brien, Kyle even joked that if it had been anywhere near that high his wife would have probably claimed it straight away.
