An A-Z Guide To Ryan Gosling

W: Weak Links

No one actor can claim that they have a faultless filmography, and in spite of his current home-runs, Gosling still has a lot to answer for in his history. Early outings such as Frankenstein and Me can be batted off as schoolboy errors, but the likes of Stay, United States of Leland, Fracture, and more recently, All Good Things, are just downright bad. Depending on your perspective, The Notebook might fit into the weak link category. But there is no denying that it essentially turned Gosling into a minor force in Hollywood, and most likely allowed him to make his more accomplished films. So to that end, The Notebook can be considered a success for Gosling: smaltz and all. I have yet to see Gangster Squad, but a lot of the feedback I have heard is mostly negative, so it looks like that faultless trend may be at an end. However, I would bet my left nut that the next two Gosling films after this will be epic and brilliant. X: XOXO 1EC0E3336E728EDF1E348A3ED3F21 Even if you wear vests for shirts and knit in your spare time, you don€™t get to be a heartthrob in Hollywood and not have a long list of super hot ex-girlfriends; Gosling is no different. Sandra Bullock, Rachael McAdams, Kat Dennings, Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde, and now Eva Mendes; Ryan Gosling is a babe magnet. When Gosling and McAdams were together, there was a real Edward and Bella-style hysteria around them. They were the real life equivalent of their Notebook counterparts, and for those people who vicariously live their lives through celebrities; it was the A-List pairing of the century. In fact, if memory serves me right, their split made more people cry than the Beatles splitting or Brookside coming to an end. Gosling has been with Eva Mendes since September 2011, and the two of them have been inseparable ever since. So much so that Gosling has even cast Mendes in his directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster. Aw, bless. Y: Young Hercules

Gosling carved quite a little career for himself on TV after leaving the Mickey Mouse Club. Following a breathtaking performance in Are You Afraid Of The Dark, and a string of bit parts including a role in the awesome Goosebumps episode €˜say cheese a die€™, Gosling eventually landed a central role in cruise ship high school comedy (don€™t ask) and all round Save By The Bell rip off, Breaker High€and then he became Young Hercules. The show only lasted one season, and was, frankly, pig awful. But Gosling blazed his way through 50 episodes, and even re-appeared in parent show, the equally awful Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. It was one of those awkwardly laughable shows, which essentially reworked the high school sitcom model into a fantasy adventure. Needless to say, it didn€™t exactly set the world on fire. Sam Raimi was heavily involved as a producer, thus proving that sometimes film directors need to just steer clear of TV, and it was the last stop before Gosling stepped up to the big leagues and took a minor part in Denzel Washington vehicle Remember The Titans.

Never one to mince my words, I believe in the honest and emotional reaction to film, rather than being arty or self important just for cred.
