Anne Hathaway: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Emma - Bride Wars (2009)

Hathaway can do comedy - it's been proved throughout her career - so it's frustrating to see that she so often chooses the wrong ones to appear in. A perfect example of this is Bride Wars, the 2009 film starring Hathaway and Kate Hudson as best friends who end up fighting for the same date for their respective weddings. Cue lots of promises of hilarity and comedic chaos, and suspicious four star reviews from Women's Weekly and other publications with little business being on film posters. The film descends into a perpetually-escalating fight between the two brides as they attempt to ruin the other's big day in a variety of ways, such as tampering with hair dye and registering them as pregnant on Babies-R-Us. It's extremely silly behaviour, but there isn't even a redeeming air of slapstick to it. Instead both characters just come off as being bratty and spiteful, and neither of the leads manage to bring any sort of depth, making it extremely difficult to find the charm through the pantomime behaviour.
