There are some incredibly unpleasant and unsettling scenes in this film, from literally revolting body horror sequences to more restrained, even artful and beautiful depictions of the Shimmer's effect on the human body.

There's one scene in particular in this film that's going to linger in the mind of just about everyone who watches it, a sequence so stomach-knottingly intense and superbly executed that it'll be talked about for months, if not years from now.

Though it would've been easy for a lot of these disturbing moments to simply settle for delivering schlocky genre thrills, the fact they stem from such an intriguing concept and involve so many compelling characters ensures there's always something thoughtful going on.

But seriously, there are quite a few moments in this movie that'll have you wincing and cringing at what you're seeing.
