Sam Raimi's 1990 superhero horror flick Darkman was a modest box office success and has remained a firmly beloved cult classic ever since, so of course there are many fans who would love to see a legit follow-up - ignoring the two direct-to-video sequels that involved neither Raimi nor star Liam Neeson.

In 2022 both Raimi and Neeson said they were interested in Darkman 2, and earlier this year the filmmaker indeed confirmed that he was actively attempting to get the sequel made through his production banner Ghost House Pictures.

Better yet, Raimi added that the script had already been written and two "great directors" were ready to shoot it.

So far, so good, right? But as ever, the biggest hurdle comes down to the most unsurprising of things - financing.

While promoting his new film Send Help, Raimi said that he was "having a little difficulty" with the money side of things, and considering both Darkman's lack of wider pop-culture relevance and Neeson's declining box office popularity in recent years, it's tough to believe Darkman 2 will ever actually get made.
