5. Martin McDonagh
Certainly not as conventional and obvious as some of the picks on this list, Martin McDonagh would nevertheless be a fascinating visionary filmmaker to put in charge of a comic book movie. To date, the Oscar-winning director has made two feature films, the riotously funny In Bruges, and the delightfully demented Seven Psychopaths, both of which mine the darker side of the human condition, while infused with lashings of gallows humour and knowing performances.
How Likely Is It? It'd be an interesting idea, but there are a few evident hurdles in bringing McDonagh onto the production: firstly, his two features to date are R-rated, and one can't imagine he would want to rein in all that swearing and violence. Secondly, McDonagh has written both of his own movies, so it's also likely that he'd scoff at the idea of working from someone else's script, especially when it's one that's rated PG-13. But of course, we could be wrong...
