Pretty much every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to date has happened in chronological order - Captain America: The First Avenger aside - but it has been rumoured that this one might not be. So, the question is where exactly does this movie fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline? It's obviously very different to the comics, as Ant-Man (Pym, played by Michael Douglas) is a founding member of the Avengers, whereas the Avengers have already been formed without any Ant-Man character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - but will this film still be set before the events of the Avengers movie? From what we can gather, "superheroes" do already exist in the world in this movie, as Pym and Lang refer to them in some test footage, but will it be set after Guardians of the Galaxy, for example? Perhaps it will be set over a number of different periods, given the vast age difference in the main characters and the inclusion of Howard Stark, but we will discover exactly when it is set next year.
