Ant-Man And The Wasp: Is The Sequel Better Than The Original?

5. The Villain

Neither Yellow Jacket nor Ghost are great villains. Both leave a lot to be desired and are genuinely quite forgettable. They were, however, very, very different. Whereas Darren Cross was ultimately just another megalomaniac hungry for world domination (yawn), Ghost was simply motivated by curing her own pain, it just so happens that the titular characters stood in her way.

This allows the audience to relate to her, and actually feel a little bit of sympathy for her, which simply can't be said about Cross. The sequel villain also bests the original villain in the aesthetic department. Since Ghost is constantly phasing between states of matter, the visuals the film was able to create were different to anything possible with a man in a suit.

Possibly the worst part about Darren Cross/Yellow Jacket is that by the end battle he is just another villain who fights the hero with mirrored powers. Watching this becomes predictable, yet Ghost offers someting completely new.

Ant-Man and The Wasp also features secondary villains Sonny Burke and Bill Foster, but these add relatively little to the movie. All this does is add Laurence Fishburne's name to the long list of great actors underused in Marvel movies.
