Ant-Man Reviews: 10 Early Reactions You Need To Know

3. It Takes A While To Get Going...

A big part of why the Marvel movies do so well is they strictly adhere to a uniform set of principals, one of which is carefully constructing their plots to adhere to the average pacing and run times of all successful films. That's why you rarely feel bored when you're watching an entry in the MCU: there's always something going on. Apparently €œtrying something different€ in Ant-Man means that was the first thing to go. €œAnt-Man is more methodical than most Marvel movies,€ says io9's Germain Lusser, which suggests that it takes a little while for the film to get going, perhaps spending more time on exposition and world-building than any other MCU entry yet. Which would be a bit of a waste, because part of the beauty of the MCU now is you can go in assuming everybody knows the rules €“ superheroes are around, as are villains, etc €“ and just hit the ground running. The one major criticism passed around about Ant-Man in these early reports is that changing the winning formula makes for a slow first half.
