Ant-Man & The Wasp Extra Features: 10 Things We Learned
5. Stan Lee's Best One-Liners Didn't Make The Cut
For Stan Lee's cameo in the movie, he wasn't just quickly ushered in front of a blue screen to drop his single one-liner and scuttle off. As an older gentleman whose car is hit by a shrinking disc as he's about to enter it, he rattled off a number of gags to give Peyton Reed something to work with in the editing room, many of which were actually funnier than the final quip:
"Talk about compact cars!", "Damn! Should've paid those parking tickets", "Oh no! My sandwich was in there", "Well, at least now I'll be able to park in San Francisco", "Oh man, I just stole this car", "Thank God it's a rental", "Well, looks like I'm walking", "Oh jeez, all my coupons were in there!", "Talk about diminishing returns. Oh man", and "Everything is shrinking on me."
Reed eventually settled on, "Well, the 60s were fun, but now I'm paying for it", but this was singled out by many as poorly-timed given the allegations levelled against Lee around the time of the movie's release and his widely-reported ailing health.
The gag about parking in San Francisco and the meta line about diminishing returns (clearly referring to the box office) were way funnier than the rather broad, somewhat awkward drug reference, that's for sure.
