Apostle Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

Ups...

7. Dan Stevens' Intense Performance

Apostle Film
Netflix

Dan Stevens is a terrific actor as anyone who's seen The Guest or Legion will attest, and he makes for a thoroughly compelling lead here, rendering Thomas an eternally exasperated and fiercely determined protagonist.

Stevens does a lot of subtle acting with his eyes, especially when the part requires him to keep his cool and maintain his cover in the cult, but he's also unafraid to go big later in the movie when subtlety is finally cast aside.

Whether he's quietly plotting to rescue his sis or beating some cult goons over the head with a giant stick, Stevens nails the role, and adds yet another highly entertaining cult curio to his growing body of impressive work.
