8. A Good Introduction For Black Manta
Black Manta - although not the major villain for the film - is still probably the most important Aquaman villain to date.
While Ocean Master is the logical pick to introduce the underwater world and the baddies within it, Manta arguably plays more of an archenemy role to Aquaman in the comics, and so his role in the first standalone film is vital. Abdul-Mateen II – the actor playing Black Manta – has made it clear that while the villain does not play a major role in the film, it will “serve as an introduction” for him.
A common failing of superhero films lies in them using too many of their best villains early, so it’s welcome news to hear that the film will be giving us more of a sampling of what’s to come – especially since the alternative is shoving two major villains awkwardly in the same film.
