Army Of The Dead: 9 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruined It
4. Pretty Much All Of The Deaths Don't Work...
As often seems to happen in zombie films, nearly the entire cast (including Dave Bautista's protagonist) dies in Army of the Dead. And, impressively, the film gets nearly every single one of these character deaths completely wrong.
The deaths all feel either pointless or mean-spirited or both. Several of the characters meaninglessly sacrifice themselves (most prominently Matthias Schweighofer and Nora Arnezeder's characters) and many of the other 'good guy' deaths are undermined by the bad writing that plagues the entire film, meaning that none of these endings feel earned.
With nearly everyone dead at the end, that makes everything that's happened feel completely pointless and viewers are likely to be in a very bad mood by the time the film finally concludes.
It would've been better to leave more characters alive at the end, since that would've fit the more light-hearted vibe Army of the Dead's premise suggests.
The many zombie kills are well-executed and the death of the main human villain at the hands of a zombie tiger is a good bit of dark comedy, but other than that? Thumbs down.
