2. The Terminator - Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines (2003)
It should have gone perfectly: the first two Terminator films had profited from Arnie's incredible, emotionless face, and traded on his near silent presence and unspoken charisma to create one of the most iconic hero/villain characters in the history of cinema. And by the time 2003 came around and Arnie came back on board for a threequel, he had had so much botox that his face barely moved whether he wanted it to or not, and his advancing age was making his movement more awkward than it had been in his athletic youth - surely that would serve the character? But now, T3 might not be the worst thing to happen to the Terminator franchise (which will probably be the forthcoming Terminator sequel) but Arnie's performance in it has lost enough of the spark of the first times he pulled on his leathers and shades, that it suffers hugely by comparison. Arnie is a little too old to play the Terminator, which is just about covered by the fact that he owns the role as much as Johnny Depp owns Jack Sparrow, but the writing is nowhere near as smart as the first two movies, and the thriller elements of the first two are replaced by a dumber chase movie feel.
