Arnold Schwarzenegger: 5 More Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Hercules - Hercules In New York (1970)

Hercules In New York Before he got his big break, and even before he stopped body building, Arnie almost sabotaged his own career with his first, and easily his worst movie, Hercules In New York. Credited as Arnold Strong, which was presumably all that was left after the producers ruled out Arnie Muscle-Man and Bodybuilder McRippled, arnie played Hercules, who heads to a 1960s New York full of pantomime idiots and racist stereotypes for a "hilarious" (read: "torturous") culture clash caper. Before those famous monkeys at their keyboards wrote the complete works of Shakespeare, they presumably had a few abortive creations that never made it to light, because that can be the only way this God-awful film was ever made. The plot is insane and terrible, the comedy is actually painful and the whole crazy mess is about as unpleasant as could possibly be imagined. Arnie was originally dubbed out, since it was clearly deemed more appropriate for Hercules to have a stunted American accent with no personality rather than a thick Austrian one, but the version where his real voice is used is even worse if you want an extra reason not to watch it. To his eternal credit, Arnie fully recognises that the film is easily his worst: "There's this political battle over water-boarding at places like Guantanamo Bay. I think they should just say, 'Hey, if you guys don't talk, you'll have to see Hercules In New York.' I guarantee those guys would talk much faster."
