Atomic Blonde Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. The Gorgeous Cinematography & Direction

Atomic Blonde Charlize Theron

As is obvious from anyone who's simply seen the trailer, this is an absolutely gorgeous-looking film, with an emphasis on bright neon and washed-out blues to emphasise the icy cool detachment of late 1980s Berlin.

Leitch's direction itself is also as consistently electrifying as you'd expect from the co-director of John Wick, even if he's ultimately beholden to those aforementioned scripting issues. Unlike so many contemporary action movies, the takes are long and silky smooth, allowing the viewer to savour every bone-crunching hit.

Above all else, the stonking action proves that Leitch, who is currently hard at work directing Deadpool 2, is going to be a major presence in the genre for the foreseeable future.
