8. The Tulkun Massacre
In an attempt to deduce Jake's location and draw him out, Quaritch commandeers a whaling vessel and orders the whalers to kill the nearby fleet of tulkuns.
The resulting massacre sees the whalers use sonic cannons to disorientate the tulkuns and then fire harpoons into their fins fitted with balloons, which force them to rise to the surface.
Though not prolonged, it's a brutal sequence, and discovering the aftermath proves massively traumatic to the Metkayina clan. It does, however, fasten the Na'vi's resolve to fight back against the RDA and exact sweet, sweet vengeance for the innocent slaughtered creatures.
Cameron's environmentalist message may not be subtle, but it sure is bluntly effective.
