So it turns out these movies weren't quite perfect after all.

After over a decade of storytelling, Infinity War and Endgame brought Marvel's Infinity Saga to a conclusion, and they were everything we could have wished for. Thanos solidified himself as the Darth Vader of this generation, the endless character list was balanced perfectly, and almost every one was given a strong, satisfying end to their own, individual arcs.

Now, with enough time passed since the movies' respective releases, and after a couple of online watch parties with the Russos and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFreely, we have been given some insight into what could have been for the two mega blockbusters.

After learning some of the ideas that never made the final cut, some of which barely got off the ground, and some that got so far as post production, maybe the movies weren't everything we could have wished for, we just didn't know it at the time.

Avengers Infinity War and Endgame are still among the greatest movies the MCU, and the entire comic book movie franchise has to offer, boasting some of the most epic, emotional, and memorable moments in the entire franchise, but that's not to say that all of these moments made it into the cinemas. Some that didn't quite make it still deserve recognition all the same.

12. Thanos Uses The Soul Stone To Devastating Effect

Thanos’ quest to assemble all six Infinity Stones in the gauntlet was designed to give him complete and full power over the entire universe. It basically made him a god with literally everyone and everything at this mercy, and of course, he utilised it to great effect.

However, each stone on its own gave the Mad Titan unrivalled power across the universe, and most were used individually to help in his journey. The Power Stone was used to defeat Thor and destroy the Asgardian ship, the Space Stone teleported him around the galaxy, the Reality Stone allowed him to defeat the Guardians in Knowhere, and the Time Stone was used to put Vision’s exploded Mind Stone back together again.

While the Soul Stone was only used once, to help identify the true Doctor Strange on Titan, there was an idea that he could use it to separate every one of his foes’ souls from their bodies during that same fight.

The concept art for this idea looks stunning, and it is a shame the Mad Titan never used the stone to its full potential on its own, but in truth it would have made the character simply too overpowered. How could Star Lord, Iron Man and co. ever recover from such an attack?
