With Infinity War and Endgame, and phase three in general, Marvel Studios took to the cosmic side of the MCU more than ever before. Over the last few years we have been introduced to the likes of, among others, Captain Marvel and the Skrulls, Ego the Living Planet, and The Grandmaster.

Infinity War almost brought into play a cosmic being above all but the One Above All, the Living Tribunal. The immortal entity exists in the comics solely to judge and maintain balance across any and all universes. Namedropped by Mordo during Doctor Strange, the all powerful being was almost called into action during the fight on Titan in Infinity War.

In the comics, the Living Tribunal was the one who commanded the Infinity Stones be split up and kept apart in the first place, so its appearance would have been apt in this story. During the battle, Doctor Strange would have sent himself and Thanos to the Living Tribunal for the Mad Titan to receive judgement from one of the few beings that could be considered more powerful than the stones themselves.

Ultimately, this idea was left behind, possibly for the same reason as the Soul Stone attack - it would have been something very final, and would have been impossible for Thanos' quest to continue after such a judgement.
