Avengers 4: 10 Twists Nobody Will See Coming

That pager message Nick Fury fired off to Captain Marvel moments before he disintegrated during Infinity War's post-credits scene is the glimmer of hope the heroes take into Avengers 4, and there's certainly more to the scene than meets the eye.

The SHIELD agent is remarkably well prepared for this particular doomsday scenario and somehow knew that Carol Danvers is now the world's only hope. It's almost as if Fury knew Thanos's 'snap' was coming and had been briefed on how to respond.

No doubt some of the mystery behind this sequence will be stripped away when Fury and Danvers share the screen in next year's Captain Marvel movie, but expect Avengers 4 to throw an additional surprise twist into the mix.

In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange goes into a kind of spasmodic trance on Titan while using the Time Stone to view millions of possible outcomes of the battle with Thanos, seeing only one where the good guys win. There's a compelling theory doing the rounds which says the MCU's resident sorcerer astrally projected himself back to the '90s to brief Fury and Danvers about the impending doom.

There's evidence to back these claims up, such as how well prepped Fury was for a situation he cannot possibly have seen coming. Perhaps Captain Marvel's post-credits sequence will see him receive a visit from a certain wizard.
