Avengers 4: 8 Major Plot Predictions

5. The Original Avengers Die For The New Avengers

It's no accident that the complete, "original" Avengers crew - Iron Man, Thor, Cap, Black Widow, Hulk, and presumably Hawkeye - are left standing at the end of Infinity War.

The decision of which characters turned to dust and which were left unscathed was certainly one that writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the Russo Brothers and Marvel Studios discussed at great length, so there's definitely something we can read into here.

Characters like Black Panther and Spider-Man are definitely coming back, make no mistake, but how will they be brought back? That's where things get interesting.

Sacrifice was a big theme in Infinity War, and the movie already touched upon the idea of exchanging a soul for a soul when Thanos sacrificed Gamora to retrieve the Soul Stone. So what if this idea is something that Avengers 4 expands upon?

Maybe the dead Avengers are all trapped in some sort of soul world/realm, and the living Avengers must trade their souls in order to bring their friends back - essentially "passing the torch" to the new generation of heroes.

It's not hard to imagine Tony Stark giving his life to save Peter Parker, and if the Avengers' aforementioned time travel mission isn't able to save everybody, this could be one way for the team to undo the horror of Thanos' finger snap.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
