In the wake of a changing of the guard, Captain Marvel will take over as the new leader of The Avengers - or whatever team replaces them - with a new lineup looking to her for guidance.

Quite who they'll be beyond Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp probably remains to be seen. Black Panther maybe?

Having Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange as the new leaders makes a lot of sense given their comparative power levels and the precedent set by the comics.

And Nick Fury obviously believes in Marvel, if she was his immediate point of call when he knew Earth was in trouble.
