To paraphrase Ultron, Pietro Maximoff can hurt the Avengers but its Wanda who can tear them apart from the inside. Which is exactly what she attempts to do as, amidst the maelstrom of action aboard Klaues ship, Scarlet Witch manages to dig her mental hooks into everyone bar Iron Man and Hawkeye. The scenes that follow are among the most visually impressive in the film as Thor, Captain America and Black Widow all experience different forms of mind melt. For once, Thor doesnt get into the swing of revels when he is transported to an apocalyptic party and confronted by a manic, white-eyed Heimdall something that will make more sense when Thor: Ragnarok is released in 2017. Meanwhile, Steve Rogers gets hit where it hurts the most when both Peggy Carter and that elusive dance are briefly teased before he finds himself standing alone in an empty ballroom. As for Natasha Romanoff, shes transported back to the Red Room of her brutal childhood, where a blink-and-youll-miss-her Julie Delpy breaks those who can be broken and leaves the rest forever changed by the sadistic regime. The uncanny, nightmarish quality of these scenes juxtaposes against the fuzzy popcorn shenanigans to great effect and proves Joss Whedon doesnt need CGI to create dazzling visuals.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
