Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Heartbreaking Joss Whedon Deaths That Will Be Hard To Beat

6. Jenny Calendar: Buffy The Vampire Slayer

One of the earliest deaths in the show's history and was brilliant not just for how it happened but what happened next. If Angel losing his soul and transforming back into Angelus marked a turning point in the second season, it was the episode 'Passion' that showed just how far Buffy The Vampire Slayer has matured as a show. It wasn't enough that Buffy's lover had turned evil, he needed to kill someone significant and Jenny Calendar's death served that purpose magnificently. In a tense sequence, Angelus destroyed the computer that contained the spell to bring back his soul and hunted Jenny Calendar through the school. What made it even more tragic was that there was a moment that the audience thought she had got away only for Angelus to appear behind her and snap her neck. But the worse was still to come. From Angelus watching Buffy and Willow as they get the tragic call to Giles discovering the body of his dead girlfriend. The scene in Giles' home was one of the most cruel in the show's history; he enters to find his house filled with roses, candles lit, La Bohème playing and a note to come up stairs. It is heartbreaking on every rewatch. He walks up the stairs, champagne in hand and discovers her corpse laid out on his bed. If there was any doubt that Angel was a villain before, this scene removed any doubt.
