Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruin It

3. The Version Of Ultron In The Trailer Was Better

It's a rare thing these days where you can point to a trailer for a movie and say it did something like the presence of a character better than the fully-fledged final film, but that was the case with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3, and it's a repeat with Ultron here. Quite literally, all the trailers for AoU purported to have Ultron as this uber-serious world-enslaving android out to demolish all you held dear, whilst enacting his revenge on Tony Stark in the process. Come the point in the movie where he's talking essentially like Stark (quipping over every scenario, trying to make light of cutting someone's arm off, going "Come on guuuys" when teammates leave him and all-round acting like he's got about as much menace as a hungry kitten) it's completely lost. The scene where he first forgets what you call children only to throw his hands up and break character is the exact same beat as the Mandarin revealing he's an actor in Iron Man 3. It's the same level of cringe, the same sort of "It's funny to ruin this character, right?" approach and the same level of 'comedy'. People are dog-piling on the new Batman V Superman trailer for being too dark and brooding, but considering how atrociously forced all of Marvel's comedy is (Star Lord's dance almost ruined Guardians of the Galaxy), we're going to welcome with open arms a film that takes its source material seriously, and doesn't do a baseline Epic Movie/Meet The Spartans-style skit at every waking opportunity.
