Film-makers often use musical cues as a chance to add references and in-jokes (such as the casino music in Iron Man being his original cartoon theme tune) or to foreshadow story details.

That very technique is used in the post-opening sequence party scene. Because Captain America's old World War II buddies are present, there's no modern music on the playlist, and one of the tracks aligns perfectly with Bruce Banner and Black Widow's loaded conversation.

As they talk, the music playing is an instrumental version of Ira Gershwin/Vernon Duke's classic "I Can't Get Started," which tells the tale of a man who has achieved a lotl, but feels empty because he can't romance the woman he loves. Could that be any more Banner?

As an added quirk there's also a reference to Superman in the lyrics:

"I'm a glum one, it's explainable, I met someone unattainable, life's a bore, the world is my oyster no more...all the papers where I led the news, with my capers, soon will spread the news, Superman turns out to be flash in the pan."
