Though Stan Lee inevitably gets the lion's share of creator homages in the MCU, there are also a number of cameos and references to the other important Marvel writers and artists.

As only eagle-eyed Marvelites will have noticed, there's a nod to Lee's successor as Marvel's editor-in-chief, Roy Thomas in the flash-back sequence that sees Captain America go "home".

When he is catapulted into the middle of a USO dance, the band playing favourites of the time goes by the name of the Roy Thomas Players. It was Thomas who created adamantium, The Vision and Ultron.

There's also a second not to Thomas: when Ultron says that "Invaders become Avengers" it definitely feels like a nod to the superhero team set up during World War II to combat the Nazis. That team included Captain America, Bucky and Namor: so quite literally some of the Invaders DID become Avengers.
