Avengers: Endgame - 10 Best Moments
7. Captain America Vs. Captain America
Of the crowd-pleasing time travel sequences that occur in the middle of the film, easily the most satisfying one sees the Avengers back in the Battle of the New York, desperately attempting to retrieve the Time, Mind, and Space Stones.
This results in a playful expansion of what went down in Joss Whedon's original movie, taking a behind-the-scenes glimpse at what happened off-screen, and also having the current Avengers coming into contact with their past selves.
This pays off terrifically after Cap convinces S.H.I.E.L.D. member and HYDRA spook Jasper Sitwell (Maximiliano Hernández) to give him Loki's scepter (which contains the Mind Stone) after whispering in his ear, "Hail HYDRA."
The look of shocked confusion on Sitwell's face is hysterical, though quickly one-upped by Cap being cornered by his 2012 self, who believes him to be Loki (Tom Hiddleston) disguised as Captain America.
And so a most brilliant bout of fan-service ensues - 2023 Captain America battles his 2012 self, their shields clanging together and past Cap getting the early edge over his future equivalent. Old Cap tells Present Cap, "I can do this all day", to which an exasperated Present Cap tells him, "Yeah, I know."
Ultimately 2023 Cap gets the edge over his younger equivalent by confusing him with the revelation that Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is alive, and then using the scepter to render him unconscious.
The fight doesn't last long, but it sure is incredible.
