5. Cap Uses Mjolnir

And now, we get to the real endgame, as 2014 Thanos and his army arrive in 2023, where they quickly decimate the Avengers HQ and battle the remaining heroes.

Thor, who is now a grossly overweight alcoholic (really), does his best to fend off Thanos, but ends up in a tricky spot when the Mad Titan grabs Stormbreaker and prepares to drive it into his chest.

Thankfully Thor appears to summon Mjolnir, which smashes Thanos in the head, but when the magical hammer returns to its pitcher, it isn't Thor - it's Captain freaking America.

In surely the film's most fist-pump-worthy moment, Cap, whose worthiness was hinted at back in Avengers: Age of Ultron, gets to wield Mjolnir, using it to beat the ever-loving snot out of Thanos for a beat.

As a payoff to almost a decade of storytelling, it was absurdly satisfying, and Thor's quip of "I knew it!" was the hilarious cherry on top. This is what superhero cinema is all about.
