4. Doctor Strange Trapped Thanos In A Time Loop In Infinity War

The Rumour

One intriguing fan theory posited that the real reason Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) was so eager to hand over the Time Stone to Thanos wasn't because "it was the only way", but because he had used it to trap Thanos in a time loop, just as he did to Dormammu in his solo movie.

This is especially important as Doctor Strange showed the ability of a time loop to negate death, and so creating a loop that gave the Avengers at least one more opportunity to battle Thanos actually made a decent amount of sense.

The Truth

As Occam's razor states, the solution that requires the least speculation is usually the correct one, and that's certainly the case here.

Strange did indeed give the Time Stone to Thanos in earnest without any charms or tricks, but it was also only because it fell in line with the one successful outcome he witnessed while peering into the 14+ million possible futures.

As Infinity War made relatively clear, this is the scenario that had to play out in order for the Avengers to eventually defeat Thanos and save the universe.
