9. Thanos Redeems Himself

Well, it happened in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, so it’s not completely far-fetched. Some speculated that Thanos would die in the first act of the film, correctly, but that a new foe would be the main villain for the rest. They were right in a way, as they did kill 2019 Thanos only to then have to defeat the 2014 one all over again.

In the Infinity Gauntlet comics, Thanos is obsessed with the personification of death and kills to woo her. The idea that they’d introduce this antagonist in the last half of the last film of the saga (second to last film, actually; Spider-Man: Far From Home is actually the last film in Phase 3) was always a little hard to believe, but so was the studio killing off half the characters.

No new villain emerged and Thanos was left with no way to redeem himself. He could have reversed the snap himself, but that wouldn’t have been very fitting. He actually does the exact opposite; Thanos decides that vanishing half of all life isn’t enough and claims that this time, he’ll start anew.

If you talk in a theatre I'm in, be prepared to get some pretty passive aggressive stares.
