Remember the VR presentation Tony uses at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War, his “little therapy session?” It was called BARF (Binary Augmented Retro-Framing) and, well, all clues led that we’d be seeing it again in Endgame. We knew time travel was more or likely going to be a plot device in the film as we saw set photos of the cast and crew recreating the Battle of New York from 2012.

Joe Russo commented while doing early press for Avengers: Endgame on the topic of time travel, “Certainly, there is a five-minute sequence in Civil War around a piece of technology that was laid in for a very specific reason. If you go back and look at that film, you may get a hint as to the direction.”

As previously mentioned, they did lie about the Avengers 4 title, so maybe this was another fib in a clever strategy of misdirection.

If you talk in a theatre I'm in, be prepared to get some pretty passive aggressive stares.
