Avengers Endgame: 15 Under-Appreciated Moments (That Deserve More Love)
13. Rhodey And Nebula Bonding
Rhodey and Nebula's shared mission was surprisingly hilarious and meaningful, despite not taking too much of the film's run time. One of the more memorable bits was Peter Quill's dance on Morag, hilarious without the benefit of a soundtrack, and Rhodey and Nebula knocking him out and entering the tomb was one of the best parts of a movie full of best parts.
But it's Rhodey's pop culture savvy and straight-man reactions to Nebula's straightforwardness that really worked, transitioning nicely into Nebula's fear of judgement and shame of her cybernetics getting no response from Rhodey beyond understanding and kindness. It's another moment Nebula's allowed to be more human, to feel the approval and acceptance of people who are good to her.
Rhodey's own disability was something he used to relate to Nebula's, showing that, not only was he sympathetic - he understood the shame she was feeling, and how they turned what could be seen as weakness into personal strength.
The moment was brief, and overshadowed by others, but it was still one that ultimately contributed to Nebula coming into her own, knowing her own worth and overcoming Thanos's hold on her.
