Avengers: Endgame - Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

28. The HYDRA Crew

It would have been nice if Frank Grillo hadn't ruined the fact that he was back for Endgame, but the sight of his Brock Rumlow, Robert Redford's Alexander Pierce and Agent Jasper Sitwell all in 2012 when their cover hadn't been blown yet was great.

And even better, Sitwell and Rumlow's involvement meant we got to see the Winter Soldier elevator moment beautifully subverted, which is about the most successful gag in the whole thing. It's also a pivotal moment as it shows Cap's focus on the grand plan: he could have lashed out at those HYDRA agents as a bit of a free swing, but he chose to keep his eyes on the real prize. That's what winners do.

27. Howard Stark

Just as a 1970 version of Hank Pym turns up, so too does Tony Stark's father Howard. He's far more relatable as a character (at least outside of Agent Carter) than we've ever seen before and his exchange with Tony gives a lot more context to why Tony is the way he is.

He's charming, eccentric and most of all proves himself both emotionally vulnerable and surprisingly self-effacing. Essentially, it's like watching Tony talking to himself and it's a very smart way of letting him have an epiphany about his future and to realise that his inexpressed fears that his dad didn't live a full life or realise his true dreams was wrong.
