26. 2018 Thanos

He's not involved nearly as much as we all might have though, but the Thanos who snapped his fingers at the end of Infinity War does return in Endgame and does get a face-off with the Avengers. It's just not as you'd expect, even if it adds some depth to the character.

Rather than him seeking more and more power with the Gauntlet, we instead meet a broken Titan who chose to destroy the Stones now that the universe was rebalanced and his last moments are ones filled with quiet reverence and defiance. It's not even like his death seems to affect him, but it is a huge moment for the rest of the Avengers and the plot.

25. Valkyrie

All hail the new King of Asgard! Having disappeared for Infinity War, Valkyrie returns as the defacto ruler of New Asgard (seemingly sited in Scotland if the tell-tale Irn Bru is anything to go by). She's still the same "angry girl" as Hulk calls her, but she's clearly more focused on helping her people thrive, which she'd need to be given how Thor is.

She gets some great moments in the final battle riding her winged horse (including turning a Chitauri leviathon into sushi) and eventually she's given the throne of New Asgard as Thor runs off for more adventures. Talk about a glow-up.
