Avengers: Infinity War - 10 Characters That Might Beat Thanos

4. The Abstracts

There are four Abstracts in the Marvel Universe, known as Eternity, Infinity, Oblivion and most importantly, Death. They maintain the fundamental building blocks of the Universe, and it is my firm belief that we have already seen one of the Abstracts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The scene in particular was when Starlord took one of the Infinity Stones in his hand and briefly saw a vision of his mother beckoning him to take her hand. As the scene plays out, Peter Quill is taken to some strange place where the ground is shifting and changing beneath him, and entire planets burn in the background. The thing taking the form of his mother was the Abstract Death. When Avengers 1 ended and we first saw Thanos, The Other mentioned that fighting against the earthlings would be to court Death. Most probably assumed this was just a nod at the comics as Thanos has spent most of his life trying to earn the love of the Abstract Death, but it is looking more and more likely that Death will be a real character that Thanos is actually pining for. Despite everything he has done, the Mad Titan has never truly earned the love of Death, and he certainly hasn't gotten any sort of admiration from the other Abstracts. At full power with the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos could fight the Abstracts, but the question is, would he try to fight his love, Death? While it's doubtable that they would be the ones to land the killing blow for the same reason the Celestials won't be the ones to stop Thanos, they're clearly going to be playing some part in the plot of Infinity Wars, and Death could certainly at least have a hand in the downfall of Thanos.
