There's just very little - if we're talking overarching thematics, narrative or storytelling - for Vision to do or contribute.

Losing him also means no future writers have to contend with the near-God status he had in Ultron, keeping stakes high and avoiding questions surrounding, "Why didn't Vision just blast them apart with his lasers and super strength?"

Lastly there's his connection to Scarlet Witch, but she's a much more compelling and driven character when not trying to settle down, versus giving us more screentime dedicated to the pair of them shacking up.
