2. Nebula Was Going To Wield The Infinity Gauntlet
In the Infinity Gauntlet comic book, a similarly deformed Nebula is also held captive by Thanos, but things get even darker there than they did in Avengers: Endgame (she's essentially a walking corpse). However, the villain is ultimately able to restore her appearance by wielding the Infinity Gauntlet and putting an unexpected end to the Mad Titan's plan.
That's obviously not something we saw play out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and some fans have questioned why. After all, while it was fitting for Iron Man to sacrifice himself, it also felt like a moment which was stolen from the Guardians of the Galaxy character.
"It was in the script for a while," Markus confirmed, "but it undercut the weight of Tony putting it on."
That does make sense in fairness, as Nebula using it, only to survive or restore her old appearance, definitely would have undermined Iron Man's ultimate sacrifice. Plus, it's arguably going to be far more interesting seeing her deal with the aftermath of Endgame in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
