7. It Requires A Sacrifice

A year or so back a leak hit 4Chan that claimed to reveal the entire plot of Infinity War and naturally eyes were rolled and pinches of salt were liberally pinched. Since then, trailers and leaks have confirmed pretty much 80% of that leak, which makes its most unbelievable but potentially devastating rumour/prediction all the more worrying.

According to that post, Thanos will learn that the only way to get his hands on the Soul Stone will be making a sacrifice of love, which will lead him to killing Gamora to try and get his hands on the Stone. Whether that works or not remains to be seen, but it's an intriguing idea, particularly as it would explain why we see Gamora's backstory.

That shot of Gamora holding onto Thanos' giant finger is probably the most compelling bit of evidence for this theory - there has to be a reason for the Russos to be exploring that part of their dynamic in such focus.

And the idea of a Soul sacrifice makes sense, given the fact that the sentient Soul Stone wants to feed on souls. That could also offer a set-up for one of the main Avengers sacrificing themself to thwart Thanos in his attempt (though perhaps still at the cost of Gamora's life).
