3. It's With Captain Marvel

Thanks to the recent direction of Marvel Comics - which is seeing the revival of the old Infinity Gems in their new guise as the Infinity Stones - CBR have come up with the theory that Captain Marvel might be bringing the Soul Stone with her to Infinity War.

This follows on from the confirmation that Marvel WILL debut in Infinity War despite earlier suggestions that she wouldn't appear until her solo movie. Joe Russo confirmed that much (seemingly by accident) and set speculation in motion.

The most compelling idea here is that Marvel disappeared in the 90s after coming into possession of the Soul Stone in order to protect the universe from a threat like Thanos trying to unite them.

It's a nice idea, but it would be a little odd for Captain Marvel to appear in proximity with Thanos with the Soul Stone if her whole shtick is keeping it away from him. And dropping that sort of reveal on a new character may be a little too much to believe too.
