9. Guardians Of The Galaxy

Mentions Of Infinity Stones?

Guardians Of The Galaxy was the first real step to explaining what the Infinity Stones are and where they came from. It saw the debut of the Power Stone, hidden in the Orb that Thanos was targeting so ferociously and which Star-Lord ended up getting his hands on.

From there, he and his new fellow Guardians took it to Knowhere and the Collector, who offered a potted history of the Stones and crucially confirms that all but the most powerful will be destroyed while trying to use them.

Curiously, despite him having the Aether, The Collector made no mention of it (which might have been expected given that the other Infinity Stone in his possession - briefly anyway - blew up his collection and presumably threatened to affect the Aether too).

Relevant Story Details

Aside from the appearance of the Orb and The Collector's revelations, the important thing about Guardians is it introduces Thanos' relationship with his "daughters", which will once more be a major story element in Infinity War. We'll see how Gamora was kidnapped and how her people were wiped out and we'll presumably also see something of Nebula's backstory too.

With the daughters both intent on vengeance - particularly Nebula - the abuse seeded in the first Guardians movie will come back into play in a big way for Thanos.
