Avengers: Infinity War Review - 9 Ups & 3 Downs

Considering the problems that certain other comic book movies have had with fully rendered villains, you would have thought that Marvel and the Russos would have avoided the potential for the those pitfalls.

But it's great that they didn't, because Thanos is the single best character in the entire film. The effects work that has gone into him is the crown jewel on top of a film that has truly great effects all the way through and it's matched for quality by Josh Brolin's powerhouse performance.

There is no emotion lost for the motion capture nor the fact that he is a great big purple monster. And crucially, the script-writers have taken everything that worked with Zemo in Captain America: Civil War and Killmonger in Black Panther and applied it to his story. He is complex, sympathetic and deeply impressive (not least because his threat is absolutely delivered on in the first ten minutes of his appearance) and he's definitely the best villain the MCU has ever seen.
