WHY He Died

Like Falcon, Black Panther's death suited the agenda to remove most of the characters who weren't original Avengers (aside for a few exceptions to that). He's a brand new MCU figure, which is partly why we can all be safe in the knowledge that he'll be back.

And Black Panther's death actually got a mention when the Russos talked about the dramatic impact of some of the deaths on the survivors. According to them, they chose to have him die and Okoye survive so we'd get to see what a character so driven by the duty and need to protect someone (her king) witness him dying. That's a different dynamic to the other characters and should mean we'll get some interesting fallout for Okoye in the sequel.
