Baby Driver Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs

1. Ansel Elgort Is A Surprisingly Compelling Lead

One of the biggest question marks surrounding the movie's release was the presence of Ansel Elgort, who aside from teen weepie The Fault In Our Stars hasn't exactly starred in a string of acclaimed movies, and honestly just seemed like an odd fit for an Edgar Wright film.

As it turns out, though, Elgort acquits himself extremely well here, bringing both an appealing calmness and underlying vulnerability to the table that's sure to endear him to a whole new audience of action fans.

Is he going to be showing up in the Fast and the Furious franchise any time soon? Probably not, but he at least proves he's a more-than-capable fit for the action arena, as long as he gets scripts that accept rather than ignore his wiry stature.

In short, he was a damn sight better in this than most surely (and rightly) expected.

What are your expectations for Edgar Wright's latest? Shout it out in the comments!
