Baby Driver Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs
Ups
5. The Action Is Absolutely Insane
For all of the film's flaws, Baby Driver is one Hell of an action extravaganza, and a clear step up from Wright's set-pieces in past movies. The car chases from the first half of the movie in particular are some of the most visually interesting and exciting in recent memory, feeling more grounded than the Fast and the Furious movies but still plenty ridiculous in their own right.
Though at its core the set-up isn't anything fans of the action genre haven't seen before, it's fired through with so much verve and energy by Wright that it manages to still feel fresh.
Smartly, Wright changes things up later on and diversifies the action in various ways, and while his script may not be the best, as an adrenaline-pumping experience, it totally succeeds.
