At the end of the first movie, Marty opens his garage to find the truck he has coveted just a week prior in the original timeline. After he uses that car to pick up Jennifer once he returns from 1885, he runs into Needles who baits him into a race by calling Marty "chicken," (a character flaw that was not present in the first film). We learned in BTTF 2 that Marty stopped playing the guitar when he hurt his hand in this very accident. Fortunately, Marty has learned a lesson about pride from his journey so the race does not happen and he does not hit the Rolls Royce. This raises the question: in the original time line how would Marty have been racing Needles if a) he was not picking up Jennifer and b) did not have the truck?
