Even hardcore fans of the first two movies will surely agree that the villains weren't really in any way memorable, beyond serving as generic, video game-y excuses for the plentiful action to ensue.

So credit it is to Bad Boys for Life for actually putting a little more effort into its two central antagonists, Isabel Aretas (Kate del Castillo) and her underling Armando Armas (Jacob Scipio).

Isabel has a personal reason for targeting Mike and Marcus, and a surprising amount of time is invested in building her up to be their most fierce foe yet, aided by Kate del Castillo's at-once intimidating and sexy performance.

Scipio's Armas is meanwhile the muscle of her operation, and while seemingly a generic grunt at first glance, is also developed far beyond that by film's end.

Though not everything the film does with these characters quite works, it's simply refreshing to see a Bad Boys movie actually treating its antagonists as something more than disposable non-entities.
